Smithsonian Institution · Scientific Event Alert Network Bulletin, 13:6 · Lindsay McClelland, editor
Source briefing. The violent ash explosions and lava production had declined by mid-May. Most of the estimated 9.4 million cubic metres of lava were produced in the eruption’s first 12–18 hours. Pasir Besar on the northwest flank produced the largest flow, followed by Batu Angus to the north and two southern flows.
During June, white steam rose about 50 metres above the summit vent. The Indonesian Volcanological Survey installed three additional seismometers, two on Gunung Api.
On 13 June, the survey recommended that residents return to Neira and Lontar. Gunung Api’s 1,800 residents remained evacuated to Ambon, Seram and Lontar.
